Red Mud Pilot Plant for Rare Earth Metals
The US$7M project involved the design and construction of an industrial pilot processing facility to extract nine rare earth metals from red mud tailings which is a bi-product of the process by which alumina is extracted from bauxite. The technology was developed by Nippon Light Metals with GDM as their single point Engineering and Project Management provider .The facility and technology was the first of its kind to be developed worldwide and proved to be a breakthrough technology in the production of rare earth metals.
GDM provided the following services:
Overall Project Management including technical management mechanical, electrical, civil and structural deliverables from feasibility to end of construction, Engineering design for Civil and structural scope and design of lighting for buildings, Construction Management, Procurement of equipment procured outside of Japan, Safety management and Cost Estimating
